The Highlights and Things to See in Rostock

Take a Walk Through Warnemünde
Warnemünde
A stroll through the charming Alte Strom and the Beach Promenade is a must for many visitors to Warnemünde: fish sandwiches from the various stands built into old fish cutters, boutiques with their summer wares, are all on offer here. The many ice cream shops are full of people and the outside seating areas of the cafes and restaurants offer you a nice place to sit and relax. The beautifully restored fisherman’s houses border the narrow alleyways and beckon you to the Heimatmuseum - a house of history in Warnemünde. While strolling along the Promenade you can’t miss the lighthouse, the Tea Pot, and the Hotel Neptune. The voice of the sea calls out to you to walk out to the end of the West Mole for a wonderful view of the Baltic and the ships as they head by.
Doberaner Münster / Cathedral and Monastery
Münster Bad Doberan
The Münster is an imposing brick structure from the 13th Century and is held as one of the most important works of medieval architecture in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is also the main church of the Cistercian Order that once existed here and has one of the most beautiful decorative Cistercian interiors Europe wide. The interior is being restored after sustaining damage during WWII. As well as the cathedral you will also find the monastery walls, work houses, and barns.
Ride the Molli Steam Train from Bad Doberan to Heiligendamm
Münster Bad Doberan
In connection with a visit to Bad Doberan you can take the famous Molli Steam Train! To Heiligendamm along a route full of tree canopies and past the Baltic Race Track, the oldest horse track in Europe. The journey takes ? minutes. When you reach Heiligendamm I will be there waiting to pick you up or you can travel on to Kühlungsborn.
Heiligendamm
Heiligendamm
In Heiligendamm you can take a pleasant walk along the seaside promenade where you will have a lovely view over the White City on the Sea, so named because of the rows of white villas along the sea.. This is the oldest seaside resort in Germany, founded in 1973 by Friederich Franz I of Mecklenburg. Some of the most famous guests include the Russian czars and the leaders who attended the G8 Summit in June 2007.
Rostock and its Famous Sites
Rostock
During a city tour of Rostock you will discover one of the oldest Hanseatic cities on the Baltic as you visit the City Harbour, University, St Peter’s & Nicholaus, St Mary’s Cathedral, city hall, the old city wall and more. Rostock is the largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, founded in 1218, it became a member of the Hanseatic League in the middle of the 13th century. The university was founded in 1419 during a time of great growth and prosperity. That came to an end with the advent of the Reformation, the fall of the Hansa, the 30 Year’s War and the great city fire of 1677 and Rostock lost its role as a political and economic leader in the area. As Mecklenburg was a long time agricultural area, industry came late to Rostock, but later the city became central to the armaments industry and as a result was seriously damaged during WWII.
Rostocker Heath
Rostocker Heide
On the return to Warnemünde we can drive through the Rostocker Heath - a nature preserve which is much beloved by tourists and residents alike. Various forms of trees abound in the forest and fields offer room for protected plants and animals: kingfishers, cranes, and sea hawks make their nests here. All over the pathways are signs explaining about nature’s residents for hikers and bike riders alike to enjoy and find their way.
